Basic Guard cartridge column for semi-preparative
Why is a guard column necessary?
The guard column serves to pre-trap substances that will be firmly adsorbed by the analytical lc column and cannot be washed by the mobile phase. The guard column serves to pre-trap substances that will be firmly adsorbed by the hplc column and cannot be washed by the mobile phase.
The packing of the guard column is usually the same as that of the analytical hplc column, but it is not necessary to stick to this point if you know what you want to capture. The inner diameter should not exceed that of the lc column, and a length of about 1-2 cm is sufficient; this is because the damage to the column is, in most cases, only a small portion of the packing on the inlet side of the column. It is recommended to use the Proecolumn and Guard column as described above to extend the life of the analytical column.
