A Simple Flow Restrictor for Controlling Carrier Gas Flow Rate in Gas Chromatography. Connect these orifices to threaded pipe, or insert them into threaded holes. Also known as flow restrictors and precision orifice valves, they are used to throttle, vent, bleed, or regulate the flow of liquids and gases.

Several important recent developments in gas chromatography call for devices to control carrier gas's mass flow. These include the provision of front and rear inlets and also multi-dimensional systems. The flow restrictor present in GC is designed to minimize the air (oxygen) and moisture that cause interface when the GC column is removed. With a flow restrictor installed, the pressure drop across the 0.100μm transfer line makes it necessary to increase the head pressure to obtain retention times equal to those you obtained without the connector. The higher head pressures used with flow restrictors might change injection port characteristics.

Gas regulators are the PRESSURE regulators (feedback pressure on the channel). Desired flow is achieved by installing a proper restrictor.

Setting gas channel to flow - instructs GC to adjust the pressure to keep the flow constant. For example, you can select a restrictor with a pressure drop equal to your column. Thus the pressure set for carrier gas will provide the same flow rate by the column and restrictor.

The instrument keeps the pressure - you get the calculated flow through the hole of a specified diameter.

Additionally, suppose running hydrogen for fuel or carrier. In that case, there is typically a snubber just after the regulator (at the tank) to keep a line break from causing a large hydrogen leak.

GC systems had a frit in the flow controller (stainless steel).

How to control the flow with a gas flow restrictor?

Stainless steel gas flow resistor and EPC work together to achieve flow control.
By connecting a stainless steel GC flow restrictor in series with the back end of the EPC, the pressure at the front end of the stainless steel gas flow restrictor is stabilized through the EPC control, thus achieving a stable gas flow. This application is very versatile, and most of the analytical instruments requiring a constant flow rate can be achieved by this method. In particular, gas chromatography split flow control and detector gas flow control.

Frequently Asked Questions

- What is a Flow Restrictor Valve? And what does it do for you?

A Simple Flow Restrictor for Controlling Carrier Gas Flow Rate in Gas Chromatography. Also known as flow restrictors and precision orifice valves, they are used to throttle, vent, bleed, or regulate the flow of liquids and gases.

- What does a Flow Restrictor Valve not do?

The Flow Restrictor Valve has an effect on the pressure, but is not designed to control the pressure in your system.

- Why should I use a Flow Restrictor Valve ?

Flow Restrictor Valve will help you:
to reduce investment and operating flow-related costs by always providing the chosen specified flow rate regardless of the pressure variations.

your system will have a stable, constant flow rate if the pressure drop is within specified limits. It will prevent the break down or damage of equipment. It will extend life span of your equipment. It will provide valuable protection for Gas Chromatography systems.

- Can you manufacture customized Flow Restrictor Valve?

Yes. Just get in touch with us and we shall discuss details. You will find our contact info here.

- What is the difference between a Flow Restrictor Valve, a constant flow valve and a flow limiter?

There is no difference. These are just different designations. They are called flow restrictors, flow controllers, throttle valves, fluid control valves, or mass fluid control valves.
